Who We Are

A neighbor-led movement to end hunger in South Jordan.

Dinosaur House Community Pantry began in October 2025 with a simple thought: someone should do something.

For many families, 2025 brought growing uncertainty around food assistance. A federal budget reconciliation law enacted that summer changed SNAP in significant ways, including expanding work requirements, shifting more program costs to states, and narrowing eligibility for some lawfully present non-citizens. Then, on October 1, a federal government shutdown interrupted funding for programs families relied on. As the shutdown continued, USDA announced that November SNAP benefits would be suspended and initially determined that existing contingency funds could not be used to provide them. Federal courts later ordered those funds to be used, but families were already facing delays, uncertainty, and the possibility of going without food assistance.

We saw neighbors caught in that uncertainty and believed someone should help. What was intended to be a temporary effort to provide groceries until assistance stabilized, quickly became something more. With the help of a few generous neighbors, we began providing groceries and household essentials from a home already known around the neighborhood as the “Dinosaur House” because of the large dinosaur statue out front.

When the immediate crisis passed, the need didn’t disappear.

We realized our community needed more than a short-term solution. It needed a place people could turn to without shame, complicated qualifications, or having to prove that their hardship was difficult enough to deserve help. We believe being our neighbor is qualification enough.

In May 2026, Dinosaur House Community Pantry officially became a nonprofit organization. We are still small, still neighbor-powered, and still learning as we grow - but we have moved from asking, “How can we help right now?” to asking, “How can we become something our community can rely on?”

At the heart of everything we do is a belief in seeing the humanity in the people around us. Asking for help should not be embarrassing, and offering help does not have to be complicated. Sometimes meaningful change begins simply because someone notices a need, decides to do something about it, and invites a few friends to join in the cause.

That is how Dinosaur House Community Pantry began, and it is how we hope it continues to grow: neighbors helping neighbors, one act of generosity at a time.

Our Mission

Dinosaur House Community Pantry provides food, household goods, hygiene products, and other essential items to South Jordan individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. Powered by neighbors, volunteers, and community generosity, we serve with dignity, compassion, and respect while helping ensure that no family in our community faces hardship alone.

Our Vision

We envision a South Jordan community where every family has access to the essentials they need, feels supported by their neighbors, and knows they belong. Through neighbors helping neighbors, we strive to build a stronger, more caring community where generosity, dignity, and connection help everyone thrive.
